Hi!! It’s a brand new academic year, and with it a brand new person running the blog: me, Erin (she/her), though I go by other erin on here. Also (I hope) there are brand new people reading this who’ve never heard of the Gay Saint Blog before – if so, welcome! Please stick around :)
Our infinitely beloved Head of Online Content and re-launcher of the blog and kind of my hero Lina (insane how they managed to do all this) has graduated, but fear not! The slayest blog in St Andrews is still running and I am going to try my absolute best to keep it as good as it ever was – but first, a message from Lina:
This blog is my baby, as everyone on the 2023-2024 blog team and senior committee knows because of how much I yap about it. It was little over a year ago that Jack and I decided to make a blog and then realised exactly how logistically difficult that is and did it anyway. Cue a lot of stressing, organising, hiring a team (and promising that a website would materialise at some point), designing, and scheduling.
One year later I am leaving my baby all grown up, feeling like a successful parent (if you disagree please don’t tell me because that’ll make me feel #sad.) I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many amazing people – special shoutouts to my amazing blog team and the fantastic editing team who edit every blogpost. I’ve learned a lot about topics that I had never really thought about. I’ve found great music recs through the blog and now may or may not be seeing Remi Wolf on tour. Essentially, I’ve loved being your #HeadOfOnlineContent through my final year of uni.
I had plans that did not come into fruition (rip gay saint uquiz – that was going to be an amazing era) and this is where other erin comes in (although not specifically for the gay saint uquiz – just more generally) :D I know that other erin will do an amazing job and bring changes, novelty, and development to the blog. She’s been so dedicated since she joined and I am extremely satisfied to be leaving this baby in her very capable hands. So excited to take a step back from the blog now and read what the 2024-2025 team has to say. To any returning writers – welcome back, looking forward to reading more from you!! To any new writers – YAY you won’t regret it and I’m so excited to be your new number 1 fan. To any prospective writers – what are you waiting for? Apply, apply, apply! I promise it’s been one of the most fun things I’ve done / best community I’ve been part of at university.
This is now officially other erin’s circus, other erin’s monkeys. Lina out mic drop (only I might reappear occasionally with random articles just to keep everyone on their toes xx)

Okay so (other erin here again) the printed magazines are good and all, but this silly little blog is easily the most fun bit of the Gay Saint and I love it. And so modern and with the times! This is the year blogs are going to get trendy again I’m sure of it. Here you can find (and write if you want) articles on just about anything you can imagine, as long as it’s vaguely queer-related or written from a queer perspective. We’ve got life advice, spirituality, reminiscences, all sorts of writing on culture and the arts, and also a whole bunch of reviews of things – and I want to expand even more, into just about any topic people are willing to write about.
I joined the blog in the middle of 1st semester last year – I’d read erin’s review of Cyrano de Puppet, then all the other articles that had been written since Lina relaunched the blog that September, and I thought it was just amazing, and so fun, and that maybe I could be a part of that if I pushed myself a bit. And now I’m in charge! I want this blog to keep being a silly relaxed low-pressure place where queer people can write about whatever they’re interested in. There aren’t any strict word counts to stick to and no-one’s getting violently murdered if they submit something late. The articles don’t have to be particularly high quality (however you’d define that), or relevant to people, or even very interesting (most of mine aren’t). It's just a student blog! And I think anything people write about stuff they like will turn out to be good anyway. The only thing I care about is people having fun writing stuff that slays.
So look out for all the amazing stuff that’s going to come out from our brilliant writers and editors, fill out the application form in the bio of our Instagram (@thegaysaintmagazine) if you want to get involved (it’s not scary I promise), and email us at thegaysaint@st-andrews.ac.uk or message us on Insta if you have any questions!
